North Georgia Camellia Society Events

The North Georgia Camellia Society meets regularly at Bellmere Gardens and other venues throughout the region, depending on the program. Please check our Calendar for the latest meeting information and upcoming events.

In addition to our regular meetings, we host several annual events that celebrate the beauty and joy of growing camellias:

February – Annual Camellia Exhibit

Held in Day Hall at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, our annual show welcomes anyone with camellia blooms to participate. Whether you’re an experienced exhibitor or brand new to showing, friendly volunteers are on hand to help you prepare your entries. We especially encourage local gardeners to share their blooms!

March – Air Layer Swap

Spring is the perfect time to start propagating camellias through air layering. Members open their gardens to others who wish to set air layers on their plants, and we also partner with Smith-Gilbert Gardens, Cator Woolford Gardens, and Woodlands Gardens for this activity. The NGCS provides all necessary materials — just bring your enthusiasm!

May / June – Annual Picnic

A relaxed and social gathering where members and guests come together to enjoy good food, good company, and plenty of camellia conversation.

July – Cuttings Party

By midsummer, new growth is ready for cuttings propagation. Bring cuttings from your favorite varieties to share with other members. A short demonstration will be offered for those unfamiliar with the process. NGCS supplies all materials.

September – Camellia Harvest

It’s time to collect the air layers you started in spring! We’ll meet at participating gardens to harvest the new plants and demonstrate how to care for them until planting time. September also marks the beginning of the Camellia season — an exciting time for growers.

November / December – Holiday Party

We close the year with our annual Holiday Celebration, a festive event filled with friendship, food, and a shared love of camellias.
